1. What do you sell apart from Christian books?
In store, we sell a wide range of Bibles, gifts, DVDs, greeting cards, calendars, daily Bible reading notes, Sunday school teaching materials, Fair Trade products (including Easter Eggs)…and lots of Christian books, including a good selection for young children and teenagers. We provide a tea and coffee area for you to sit down and relax. There is also a counselling service with professional counsellors, open during shop hours.

2. Can I purchase books on your website?
Yes, we sell a large selection of promoted items online; however, we have considerably more products in store. We usually dispatch orders the next working day if in stock. We also take telephone orders and goods can either be collected or delivered.

3. What are your opening hours?
The shop and counselling service are open Monday to Friday, 9:30 – 5:30 and Saturday, 9:00 – 5:00. We are closed on Sunday and public holidays.

4. Can I special order from Canaan?
We are always pleased to supply goods to customer order if they are not in stock at the time. Visit our shop, call us or submit your enquiry online and we will be happy to deal with your request. Normally goods can be obtained within a few days for collection from the shop. We also supply bulk orders for Churches and schools at good discounts.

5. Can I order books on ‘sale-or-return’ for my church bookstall?
We are very happy to provide books on a sale-or-return basis provided unsold books are returned within 6-8 weeks in the same condition as borrowed. Some churches use this facility for a bookstall, special events, such as summer fairs, or to promote a teaching series. For your convenience, we can assemble a selection of products based upon your preferences.

6. What is Canaan’s pricing policy and do you give discounts?
Canaan obtains goods almost exclusively from Christian publishers/suppliers and sells at recommended retail prices where stipulated. We always have books on special offer in the Take Note magazine. As a charitable company, Canaan is not primarily here to make a profit so prices are not significantly marked up. However, we do offer a 10% discount for church book orders and offer a discount for bulk orders where possible.

7. Do you accept book tokens?
We accept National Book Tokens on all purchases in store.

8. Do you sell gift vouchers?
We sell Canaan Gift Vouchers, available in denominations of £5 and £10, which are redeemable in our shop. They make ideal birthday gifts and some local churches offer them as rewards in their Sunday school classes.

9. I don’t live in Staines-upon-Thames – is the shop easily accessible and is there parking nearby?
Canaan is located on the High street near the iron railway bridge, five minute’s walk from the railway station. There is no parking outside the shop, but customers are allowed to stop briefly to collect larger orders. The shop is readily accessible to wheelchair users.

10. Can I donate books to your second-hand section?
We are always pleased to receive Christian books in good condition (for resale) and have a growing clientèle seeking such material for study purposes and general reading.

11. Why should I buy from Canaan when it is cheaper online?
It is not always true that it is cheaper to buy online. We would love for you to ask us first! We offer the opportunity to browse, handle and compare books to make an informed decision: non-Internet shoppers would be at a particular disadvantage if they lost this facility.

12. Why should I support my local Christian bookshop?
Supporting Canaan enables us to resource the local Christian community as well as maintaining an outreach on the High Street six days a week when most churches are closed.

13. How can I support Canaan?
In these challenging times for Christian bookshops, we certainly do appreciate your support and prayers. Many customers support us by becoming a Friend of Canaan.

14. How can I keep in touch with Canaan?
We encourage you to subscribe to regular news posts from this website. We are also on Twitter and Facebook.
